Intro to Calculus

 

Teacher: Dylan Schenker – a recent graduate of the STEM magnet program at Montgomery Blair High School. Starting this fall, he will be attending Brown University, where he plans to study applied mathematics and music. He has studied advanced math topics in high school, including multivariable calculus and complex analysis. Outside of academics, Dylan is an avid musician, nature enthusiast, dog lover, and chess player.

Who: Students taking any level Calculus in the Fall.

 

Topics covered

Review of Precalculus: review of the unit circle, solving trigonometric equations.

Day 1

Day 2

Review of Precalculus: review of limits, logarithms, vectors, and other important topics foundational for calculus.

Intro to Derivatives: intro to derivatives and how they are calculated.

Day 3

Day 4

Applications of Derivatives: derivatives in context of word problems and other applications such as local maxima.

More Derivatives: concavity testing, intermediate value theorem, and L'Hôpital's rule.

Review: brief review of everything taught
